Music Appreciation
MUSIC APPRECIATIONLeader: Phil Page (0121 682 5249)The group meets at Menzies CLC in Clarkes Lane, West Bromwich, on 3rd Monday of each month (except August when the Centre is closed). The programme begins at 2pm and finishes at 4pm. Do you listen to music…or just hear it? Do you despair at the “rubbish” pretending to be music nowadays? Are you one of those people who insist “It was much more tuneful in my day”? Or do you feel that the only “good music” was written by classical composers?Every month members listen to a programme of recorded music ranging from Bach to Bacharach, and from McCartney to Malher. Usually the programme has a theme, such as music used in films, or a musical journey through Europe. There is often a nostalgix edge to the pieces played reflecting the memberd memories of music. Between each piece there is a commentary, with information about the artist, or the composer, or simply the background to the composition. Whilst it aims to be informative, it is never “highbrow”. Humour is an essential element of this particular learning process.MUSIC IS A PRECIOUS ASSET THAT IS EASY TO SQUANDER
